For those who haven't been to Quiz-a-ma-jig in a while, we wanted to pass along a special message: Max's (our home) is participating in the "Battle of the Paddles" to raise money for the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation.

Starting on September 21, two teams of friendly competitors (one from our home, Max's Taphouse, and one from Canton bar Nacho Mamas/Mamas on the Half Shell) will leave Quantico, VA. Each team of three members will paddle their kayaks down the Potomac River to the Chesapeake Bay. From there they will head north, stopping in Annapolis, MD and other points along the Bay. The trip will culminate five days later as they end their trip in Fells Point on September 26.

This amazing feat of physical performance would be reason enough to say "wow," but to add to the already amazing trip is the fact that they are doing it all to raise money for a very important charity - the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation. Believe In Tomorrow provides a stable environment for the families of sick children. Since 1986, Believe In Tomorrow has provided over 300,000 overnight accommodations, helping families stay together in the midst of a medical crisis.

So now the question is "Gee, those guys are paddling over 165 miles. What can I do?" The answer is simple: just make a pledge to either of the paddling teams (we recommend Max's since that's our home) to help raise money for Believe In Tomorrow. It's easy to do, you won't pull a muscle, there is no chance of getting lost, and the Coast Guard won't be needed if you get lost. We don't ask much of our trivia playing friends, but this would make us AND YOU feel a little better about our/yourselves.

So we've been kinda slack at updating the website or this blog, but today we're catching up a bit by calling out two, count 'em, TWO appearances in local Baltimore blogs in the past week.

First up is a story on Sam Sessa's Midnight Sun blog about his appearance at our Game Show Night a few months back. Sam was a good sport and lent a humorous voice to our Match Game panel.

Next up is from the Baltimore Sun's offshoot publication b (is that how you identify it when typing?) about reporter Jordan Bartel's visit to Quiz-a-ma-jig a few weeks ago. It also includes his experiences at No Idea in Federal Hill, but who cares about that.

That should drive even MORE traffic to our website (or not) and will mean an even BIGGER crowd this week (is that possible?) among other things. Plus, it gives us a few more hits when you google "quiz-a-ma-jig" now.

Recently a wonderful music anniversary came and went. It was 40 years ago (not) today, when ~~Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band~~ Abbey Road's cover art was photographed. The iconic image fed into an unusual rumor: that Paul McCartney was dead. Did it represent a funeral procession? Did Paul's shoeless feet represent his voyage to the afterlife? The reason for Paul's bare feet is simple enough.

The photographer for this shoot took a total of six shots of the band traversing the "zebra crossing" as the English call it. For the first few passes, Paul was wearing sandals. This made it difficult to keep the same gait as his band mates, so he ditched them after a few attempts. The fifth picture from the series was used for the cover, and history was made.

Now if only we could figure out why Helter Skelter sent Charles Manson to order a psychopathic killing spree.

It was 20 years ago today that one of the most visible actions of the horrendous Chinese government occurred. The Tiananmen Square Massacre was a turning point for the Chinese people. But not in a good way. Dissent was stifled. Information came under control. People were executed.

Since that time the Chinese government has tried to whitewash the whole affair. If you were a student in China you'd find it missing from your text books. This blog post is most likely unreadable by anyone in China despite its presence on the World Wide Web.

With today's anniversary comes more actions by the Chinese government to erase this event from history. News organizations reporting from China are being harassed today as they try to interview citizens. And a police force armed with umbrellas has been dispatched to interfere with any photographing or video recording.

Be thankful that you live in a country where you are (fairly) free to protest.

A TV news program picks up on it and reports it as real. So far nothing too crazy. So ImprovEverywhere decides to post video of the TV news program's report to show how gullible they were. What does the TV station do? Send a copyright notice to YouTube to take down the embarrasing video.
